Why intern at Smart College Visit?
To gain real-world experience working in the field of marketing and public relations/communications while building a publishing portfolio. The Smart College Visit blog publishes blog posts, longer articles, surveys, "how to" guides, college features, videos and audio podcasts for the college-bound audience. Interns learn what it's like to work with an editor, adhere to an editorial calendar, meet deadlines, and how to write for specific audiences.
To learn how to work in a professional, virtual environment. Since our interns represent the college and universities where they are enrolled, all internships are virtual. By working remotely, students learn to use a variety of online/web-enabled communication tools.
Will interning help me get a job?
We certainly hope so. According to YouTern, an internship matching service, "9 out of 10 direct-from-college jobs will go to students with experiential education on their resumes." At Smart College Visit, you will not only have an internship to "put on your resume" but you'll also have a portfolio of published work that you can link to on your resume, from LinkedIn, or on your own web site or About.me page.
How do I apply?
Internships may be eligible for course credit. Students interested in becoming a SCV Campus Rep, should email Gail. Please include your status (freshman, sophomore, junior or senior) and your major. We are currently recruiting interns. For more information, read the complete press release: Smart College Visit Announces Campus Rep Internship.
