This Saturday, I'm taking two teens to the Admissions Open House program at Radford University. We will "see" RU with new eyes and gain a new perspective on this university. My kids, their friends and my family and I have been there many times to attend concerts and plays, readings, art openings, piano recitals, entrepreneurial summits, and other campus events. Yet, I have never looked at Radford from a parent's perspective and the teens I'm taking, who are high school juniors, are only beginning to think about college. It will be an interesting day, with a mix of both the familiar and the new.
In exploring the school's web site, a new portal for prospective students and their families caught my eye. RU and You is a media-rich information site packed with videos about the campus, facilities, student life and the significance a degree from Radford University can offer.
I found the virtual tour to be my favorite feature of the site. It showcases an aerial view of campus with key locations flagged by framed miniature video windows. Clicking a window launches the video. While a virtual tour cannot replace an on-site experience, it can certainly inform and entice you to visit campus. It worked for me.
